New York

Comfort Inn at the Pointe – Niagara Falls, NY

Comfort Inn at the Pointe is in an excellent location close to the falls (you can actually hear the falls from your window), the bridge to Canada and the state park. The hotel was very clean and the prices are not bad.

They only have a complementary “full American breakfast” that was not too bad. My only criticism… tours that are booked in the lobby are expensive. You’re better off going to visitor’s center which is across the street within the state park where you can get a Master Pass to major attractions or better yet pay individually as some attractions you can skip (ie. aquarium, discovery center).

Rooms were clean and comfortable and the service was good. Room prices were about average for hotels in the area. We would stay here again.

House of Blues Hotel – Chicago, IL

I travel to Chicago (and elsewhere) on a regular basis and the House of Blues Hotel is the best downtown hotel I have ever stayed none.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating and I have never had a problem that was not resolved immediately. The hotel is walking distance from excellent food and world class shopping on Michigan avenue. Across the driveway from the hotel is the House of Blue Restaraunt and music venue where you can see top musicians nightly.

I am not easially impressed. I have traveled all over the world. This hotel is totally cool!

Hyatt Place – Schaumburg, IL

We like the Hyatt Place and have stayed there several times. This is a great hotel in my opinion. It was clean, well maintained, and offered good quality for the price. Our suite was nice and roomy.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They have a free breakfast buffet with lots of variety… ┬ámore than the typical free breakfast offerings at other hotels. The location was also nice if you wish to go shopping. The Woodfield Mall and Ikea are just a short distance away. They have a nice indoor pool and jacuzzi too.

We would not hesitate to stay there again. We plan to visit the Chicago area this summer and will most likely stay here. I would recommend this Hyatt Place  to my friends as well.

Comfort Inn – Marlborough, MA

We stayed at this Comfort Inn on a trip up to Massachusetts after bringing my daughter to college in Worcester. This hotel is about 10 miles from Worcester, just off I-290.

It’s a real basic motel but fairly clean and comfortable. There is a large shopping mall (Solomon Pond Mall) just up the road that has a number of restaurants (TGI Friday’s). A complementary breakfast is included with your stay.

Executive Pacific Plaza – Seattle, WA

Located in the downtown area, this is a revamped, older builiding perfect for those looking for a good, safe place but still with a budget. If you have the $300 a nite, blow it somewhere else, if you have well…. as much money as we do (read: definetally not a lot) stay here. I have been here once before and am returning with husband in tow. Good points:

  • The rooms were redone in 2001.
  • The check-in guy, who doubles as the concierge knows all about the city.
  • It is within walking distance from all the major attractions, and they are happy to call a cab for those which aren’t.
  • The breakfast is a good size and open (as my husband says) normal hours , meaning, they don’t close at 9 a.m.
  • Good places to eat nearby
  • use of a parking structure on opposite corner

Bad points:

  • You have to understand this building is older, the rooms are not huge and spaceous. they are small hotel rooms, but there is plenty of space for two adults and a crib. heck, if you are carign that much about the size of the room, you need to get out more.
  • since they use the parking garage across the street, parking for your car is $14 plus tax== so don’t rent a car- unless you have to. also, request a room on the opposite side of the parking garage.
  • overall this is one heck of a great find.
