Towneplace Suites by Marriott – Burlington, VT

In an area where lodging can be quite expensive, Towneplace Suites was reasonably priced and well worth the stay. This suite hotel is actually located in Williston, about 1 mile off of I-89, exit 12 and about 7 miles from downtown Burlington.

Check in was quick and the desk attendant was very friendly and accommodating. Plenty of parking too. All accommodations offer complimentary high speed wifi. They have a nice selection of cable TV channels. Studios, One and two bedroom suites are available. We stayed in a two bedroom suite that was clean and comfortable… especially sleeping! The beds were excellent, with plenty of down-filled pillows and an extremely comfortable mattress… and very quite at night (no road noise). Studios are large open rooms with one queen bed, full bath and furnished living/dining area with double sofa bed in most units. One bedroom suites have a separate bedroom with one queen bed, full bath and furnished living room with dining area and double sofa bed. Two bedroom suites have two separate bedrooms with one queen bed each, one full bath and furnished living room with dining area and double sofa bed. All accommodations have a fully equipped kitchen including coffee maker, cooking and eating utensils, dishes and glassware, dishwasher, microwave and refrigerator with icemaker. Pets are allowed with a non-refundable fee.

The hotel is located near plenty of shopping and restaurants. Downtown Burlington is only about 7 miles away and well worth a visit.

One minor complaint… we were on the first floor and the suite above us must have had small kids who got up early and let off steam by running around the suite. Other than that, this was a great stay. We plan on staying at Towneplace Suites again the next time we are up this way.

Quality Inn at the Gorge – Quechee, VT

This Quality Inn is a small motel located next to one of Vermont’s natural attractions, Quechee Gorge.

Our rate included a FREE Deluxe Continental Breafast. FREE high speed Internet in all rooms.¬†Overall I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. The rooms were clean and the service was good. It’s also in a great location. One negative… our bed was very uncomfortable.

The hotel is next door is a nice little restaurant that serve great breakfasts. It’s also within walking distance is a rather large antiques mall. The Quality Inn is a little pricey in season, but it’s clean, the staff is friendly and it’s in a cozy little corner of Vermont. We stayed there over the 4th of July weekend and had a great time!

Comfort Inn at Trolley Square – Rutland, VT

Clean and reasonably priced, this Comfort Inn is directly across from the Vermont State Fairgrounds. Great location, very good continental breakfast, pool, sitting area/lounge on 2nd floor.

We stayed there while visiting the Fair. (great fair, by the way). There are several very nice restaurants within walking distance nearby, including the Sirloin Saloon. There’s a large mall just south on US7 about a mile away. Downtown Rutland, also very nice, is north about a mile. Nice location, near everything.

Smart Suites – South Burlington, VT

I have spent the 3 months in Smart Suites. It is fairly clean, relatively comfortable, and reasonably priced. However, if you are looking for excellent guest service, this is NOT the hotel for you. The staff is almost non-existent. Usually there is only one person on duty and since they cannot leave the front desk, they are limited on what they can do to help guests. Most of the staff is relatively friendly, but if unusual issues or problems arise they show little concern and take NO action to remedy the situation.

Likewise, there is little or no management oversight. Management is only on premises for a few hours during the day. If you have a problem checking in at 10pm on Friday night, don?t bother asking for the manager, there isn?t one available. Even if you track down the Manager, you will only get a lot of excuses and very little action. SOME EXAMPLES: The ?advertised? copy machine in the business center was broken and it took 3 weeks before it was replaced.

Local newspapers are supposed to be available at the front desk, however they were consistently gone by 8am. When this was addressed with the Manager she said she had recently increased the number of local papers delivered from 6 to 12, so she ?couldn?t understand? why they would all be gone. This situation repeated itself for almost 2 weeks before enough newspapers were ordered to meet the demand. My experience at other comparable hotels, is that if a guest asks for a newspaper and they are all gone, a member of the staff will be dispatched to get some more newspapers. In most cases, a good hotel would have set a newspaper back for that guest, or would have started putting them under that guest?s door each morning. However, at Smart Suites that kind of individualized service is beyond their comprehension.

On one occasion, I was forced out of my room for a day, due to maintenance. This was after I had made arrangements so that this would not happen, and was assured by the Manager that it was taken care of. Eventually, I was given another room (in the hotel across the parking lot). However, this didn?t happen until the last minute and turned into a huge hassle. Upon arriving back at my room, I was sure I would find a fruit basket or a box of chocolates with a note saying how sorry they were about the inconvenience, but of course, there was NOTHING. The Embassy Suites would have done something and the Residence Inn would have too, but not the Smart Suites.

Holiday Inn – Rutland, VT

Rutland’s Holiday Inn is located south of the city directly across the street from the Diamond Run Mall. It’s a well maintained property with a respectable array of amenities on-site.

This Holiday Inn was OK for the price. It’s in a good location. Breakfast was included with our rate. Our room was a bit outdated and the bathroom in need of some minor repairs.

There’s plenty to see and do nearby, with shopping, restaurants and tourist services all around. Some are even a short walk away. If you’re looking for a nice meal I recommend “The Sirloin Saloon”, about a mile north on US Route 7. It’s part of a small regional chain of restaurants and a great place to eat.
