Hyatt Place Universal Studios - Orlando, FL
This is one of several Hyatt Place properties in the Orlando area. It was previously an AmeriSuite, and is a relatively new property. It’s located on Caravan Court, just across from Universal Studios. Rooms are comfortable and resaonably priced. All rooms have a 42″ flat panel high-definition television, a plush oversized sofa sleeper that is separated from the sleeping area, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi internet access. We’ve stayed at the other Hyatt Place on International Drive and this one is pretty much the same.
Guests enjoy a free continental breakfast each morning and can purchase freshly prepared menu items 24 hours a day. Premium espresso drinks, beer and wine are also available at the Gallery Café. They also have a fitness center and an outdoor heated pool. The staff was extremely accommodating when we checked in and frequently asked if everything was ok.
There’s a Denny’s, Cracker Barrel and TGI Friday’s adjacent to Amerisuites, well within walking distance.
Considering what you get for the price, I would rate this Hyatt Place an 8 on a scale of 1-10.
Orange Lake Resort - Orlando, FL
This is the absolute best of all the Orlando area resorts. Orange Lake is about 4 miles from Disney and has rooms that sleep 5-8. Studio, 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom. They have a HUGE entertainment complex which includes an in house movie theatre, game room, etc. Each night is a different pool side party! Even a Luau.
They have an 80 acre private lake with every kind of lake activity that you could think of (water skiing, speed boats, paddle boats, canoes, etc.) They also have in house car rental, entertainment discount ticket sales, tennis, miniature golf, many restaurants, shopping, a grocery store… even and Arnold Palmer golf course.
This is an EXCELLENT family resort! It’s our FAVORITE and we have been going to Disney every year for the past 11 years. This is the stuff that makes you keep on coming back to Orlando. It’s all smiles at this resort!
LaQuinta Inn - Pigeon Forge, TN
Amid the many rundown motels in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area is a rare jewel–clean, well managed, fairly new, and just off the noisy main highway. Although not easy to find (enter via the Long John Silver parking lot) it was worth the search. For those doing a little research, this property was formerly a Guesthouse Inn.
The property was close to Dollywood and Bennett’s Barbeque, it’s reasonably priced, especially with the coupon in the lodging booklet available at the Tennessee Welcome Center. No, I don’t work for the company and had never heard of the LaQuinta chain before my family and I took a mini-vacation to the Smokey Mountains last fall. We picked up the coupon booklet, checked out and rejected about eight other establishments before finding a picture of LaQuinta in the booklet. It looked promising, and after driving past the inn several times (it’s back off the highway) we finally spotted it and were impressed with the lobby and friendly desk personnel.

Best Western Seven Seas - San Diego, CA
WOW! I know it’s a simple word, but it also conveys the truly remarkable jewel of a hotel you have in the Best Western Seven Seas in San Diego. Anyone to say that a hotel is just a hotel obviously has never visited the Seven Seas. I know many hotels will survey their guests to hopefully get a feel for their experience often ranging from definitely never stay here again to absolutely would stay here again.
Absolutely, while a powerful word, does not come close to the deep seated loyalty I have towards the Seven Seas. From a scale of 1 to 10, the Best Western Seven Seas scores a 100. Yes, 100! There are no other hotels in its category. The caliber of their performance is that which is on par (based on my personal experience) with Westin in Vail, the Fountainbleu in Miami, and the Hilton Rainbow Towers in Honolulu. In fact, my perception of Best Western Hotels has increased many times based on their performance. And, I would seek out Greystone Hospitality owned hotels any time I’d venture to the West Coast.

The Commander - Ocean City, MD
The Commander is a non-smoking hotel on 14th street in a great location about midway on the Ocean City boardwalk. All suites have a view of the ocean. We found the staff to be very efficient, friendly and helpful. We stayed in the 7th floor Captain’s Suite two years in a row and are booking again for next year.
Our suite had a huge jacuzzi tub, with a double head shower. There was a small kitchen area with a full size refrigerator, microwave, sink, and cupboards. Dishes are provided as well as dish cloths, dish towels and dish soap. The maid changes the towel and dish cloth every day, but you are responsible for washing your own dishes.
