America’s Best Value Inn – Fredericksburg, VA

This America’s Best value Inn is located just off I-95 Exit 130 in a highly commercialized area. The motel is an older one but in pretty good shape. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Plank Road is a very busy highway with shopping and restaurants on both sides and the Ramada is located on the south side of the road. I don’t recommend that you try to cross it to walk to a restaurant. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance on the Best value Inn side.

Directly in back of the motel is the Spotsylvania Mall, just another way to blow an hour or two after you check in. Fredericksburg is a city rich in early American history. If you get the chance, drive into town and check out some of the historic area. You may just find that you’ll schedule a longer stay on your next trip through the area.

Considering what you get for the money, I would rate the Fredericksburg Best Value Inn a 6 on a scale of 1-10.

Hampton Inn – Stony Creek, VA

What a refreshing surprise at the Hampton Inn Stony Creek! Lavishly designed yet competitively priced. The hotel is located right off exit (I think #33) in a small town called Stony Creek.

All rooms come standard with micro/fridge coffee maker iron and ironing board, complimentary in-room movie channel and HBO. There’s high-speed internet access in every room and wireless internet access in the hotel lobby. There’s also coffee and tea in the lobby 24 hours a day and USA Today copies Monday-Friday. The Free hot breakfast was awesome and the staff were great.

There’s a great Italian restaurant nearby and the cleanest hotel I have stayed at in ages. This is definitely a must stay at.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites – Petersburg, VA

This hotel is one of the nicest hotels in the area. The Holiday Inn Express has clean rooms and is set back from I-95. (You can not hear the hummm of the road, which I feel, is important.) It offers a free Express Start hot breakfast bar that features hot cinnamon rolls. There is hotel-wide free high-speed Internet access, a 24-hour fitness center and a heated indoor pool, whirlpool and Jacuzzi.

There’s a couple of restaurants at this exit, but not much else. Book in advance and you can get substantial discounts. AAA and AARP are also accepted.

Country Inn and Suites – Richmond, VA

We stayed over night on our way to Daytona. This looks like a fairly new hotel. The lobby has such a warm welcoming feeling, the rooms are wonderfully decorated and spotless.

This Country Inn and Suites hotel includes a complimentary breakfast, parking, wired and wireless high speed internet. Our guest room had a 32″ LCD TVs with HBO, complimentary in room coffee, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, microwave, and refrigerator. Although we got a typical room, whirlpool and 1 bedroom suites are also available.

It is conveniently located off I-95 next to service stations, and there is a Burger King and McDonald’s within walking distance. This hotel has very friendly service and a  nice continental breakfast. I would rate it a 10.

Days Inn at Kings Dominion – Doswell, VA

The Days Inn at Kings Dominion is a newer hotel located within walking distance to the Kings Dominion Theme Park. They bill themselves as the “closest hotel to Kings Dominion”, and they are… about 1/2 mile to the park entrance.

The hotel is clean, well maintained and reasonably priced. Check-in was quick and the front desk person was gracious and accommodating.  The rear of the hotel is close to railroad tracks that are often used, so ask for a front room if you can get it. Our room was great, with a very comfortable bed. It was a non-smoking room and indeed was, however the hallway did have a heavy odor of tobacco. The room included a small refridgerator, microwave and coffee maker. Wi-fi was also free and reasonably strong.

There is a basic continental breakfast included although we didn’t stick around long enough to give it a try. They claimed a free USA Today but we couldn’t find any.

Other than the theme park, there’s not much happening at this exit. There’s a Burger King next to the hotel and a Denny’s down the road near the Best Western.
